The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our highest priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is requiring hospitals to meet established criteria as part of the state’s reopening plan. The Springfield Shriners Hospital submitted its Phase 1 attestation on May 29, 2020, and its Phase 2 attestation on June 9, 2020.

Blake gets his groove on in physical therapy

Since Blake was a toddler, his mother, Laura, recognized his passion for music. Now playing the drums, guitar, keyboard and harmonica, 4-year-old Blake has been able to build stamina and an incredible confidence – especially in front of crowds!

Blake was born with cerebral palsy, and he comes to the Springfield Shriners Hospital for physical therapy with Megan. She likes to incorporate music and dancing into his sessions because dancing requires a higher level of skill than walking due to the weight shifts and motor planning involved. Blake has been able to build endurance while having fun! According to his mother, Laura, “Therapy is play for Blake. Every part is enjoyable.”

During his most recent therapy session, Blake dressed up like his idol, Bruno Mars, and made a music video to Uptown Funk!

Don't believe him? Just watch!
