Leaving a legacy of love

Leaving a legacy of love

On July 23, the Springfield Shriners Hospital donor development department hosted a Dream Makers Legacy Society (DMLS) recognition luncheon. The DMLS is a newly launched recognition program for donors who have included Shriners Hospitals for Children in their estate plans.

Seven individuals were honored with DMLS certificates presented by Katie Wyatt, Shriners Hospitals for Children planned and major gift officer, and Lee Kirk, Springfield hospital administrator, in recognition of a variety of generous gifts. The Springfield Shriners Hospital is named as beneficiary to estates, specific real estate, retirement plans, trusts, life insurance policies and IRAs.

For Patricia Jennings, a retired registered nurse with five children, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, it was an easy decision to choose an organization that provides outstanding medical care to children. Jennings also has a friend who was a Shriners Hospital patient treated for clubfoot. “I saw success with him and I thought Shriners Hospital is a good place to put my money,” said Jennings.

Steven and Beverly Smart became inspired to have the Springfield Shriners Hospital as their beneficiary after seeing first-hand the transformational care their friend’s child received. “It was uplifting to see all of the things that are happening here,” said Beverly Smart.

Donors who include Shriners Hospitals for Children in their estate plans make these choices with great consideration. It is not an easy decision. They could choose from hundreds of worthy organizations. Our history of transforming lives for the past 95 years, along with our mission of helping children regardless of their ability to pay, puts our organization at the top of their list!

Legacy gifts are the foundation of support that will sustain our hospital for the next 100 years!
