The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our highest priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is requiring hospitals to meet established criteria as part of the state’s reopening plan. The Springfield Shriners Hospital submitted its Phase 1 attestation on May 29, 2020, its Phase 2 attestation on June 9, 2020, and its Phase 3 attestation on July 8, 2020.

Rehabilitation services

The rehabilitation department specializes in evidence-based pediatric physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech and language pathology for children, with a range of orthopaedic, rheumatologic, neurologic and sports-related diagnoses. Individualized therapy is provided to both inpatients and outpatients in a relaxing, child-friendly environment. Outpatient pediatric physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language pathology services are offered to the community. Please call the rehabilitation department manager at 413-735-1356 for inquiries.

A highly skilled team

Physical and occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists are trained and hold advanced certifications in various treatment approaches, such as selective functional movement assessment, functional movement screening, neurokinetic therapy, craniosacral therapy, manual therapy, neurodevelopmental therapy, SCHROTH Method and Pilates. Treatment is held in our state-of-the-art gym or private rooms.

One of the unique benefits to receiving rehabilitative therapy at the Springfield Shriners Hospital is the wealth of pediatric clinical and medical expertise available to patients. Therapists enhance patient outcomes by collaborating both clinically and through research with the hospital’s on-site motion analysis center and Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) – Northeast, LLC.
