Zoe is known for her positive attitude and love for golf

Patient chosen as Tampa standard bearer for Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Zoe, 15, lives in Lutz, Florida, with her mom and dad. She has a can-do attitude. When Zoe was only 10 days old, she developed encephalitis – inflammation of the brain. The brain swelling resulted in two strokes and cerebral palsy. She has residual left-sided weakness, mostly in her foot, and some loss of muscle control.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Tampa has provided orthopaedic care for Zoe since 2008. The trusted professionals monitor her hips and spine, offer physical therapy, and make the braces that support her left foot and ankle. With the help of the Tampa Shriners Hospital, Zoe has played virtually every sport.

An honor student, Zoe enthusiastically participates in school activities including Junior ROTC and HOSA – Future Health Professionals. She loves animals, especially her dog, Abby, and cat, Theo. She also enjoys scuba diving.

Zoe’s grandparents introduced her to golf a few years ago. She enjoys the challenge and believes golf is a sport she can play her whole life. After participating in Bryson DeChambeau’s inaugural golf tournament this spring, Zoe’s passion for golf was renewed. She takes weekly golf lessons, practices regularly, and has her sights set on making her high school golf team.

Zoe was chosen as one of 22 patient ambassadors throughout the country to represent the health care system at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, where she will serve as a standard bearer throughout the weekend, carrying the scores of professional golfers as they compete. It is a rare 'inside the ropes" opportunity at a PGA TOUR event, as well as the chance to share how Shriners Hospitals for Children has helped transform her life.
