Patient programs

At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Tampa, care extends far beyond the hospital walls. The child life department at the Tampa Shriners Hospital believes that recreation and leisure should be an important part of everyone’s life, without exception. We partner with a number of community organizations to introduce patients to the wide range of recreation possibilities and assist patients in discovering their passions, leading to a life full of fun.

During your visit to the Tampa Shriners Hospital, you may see therapy dogs, musicians, magicians, area sports teams, clowns, picnics or holiday-themed parties. Activities and classes are provided free-of-charge to patients and families. In addition to special events offered throughout the week, we offer other engaging activities.

Clinic activities

Fun activities are often held in the outpatient clinic waiting area. These include arts and crafts, games, music and more.

Camp Care-A-Lot: a week to remember

Camp is held each summer at Brandon’s Camp Rotary for 20 patients ages 8 through 10. Campers spend the week participating in events such as swimming, fishing, archery, boccia, arts and crafts, a carnival and an ice cream social. We also bring in plenty of special guests. For some campers, this marks their first time away from home. The fellow campers they meet quickly put them at ease and often lead to long-term friendships.

Patient ambassador program

Becoming a patient ambassador for the Tampa Shriners Hospital is a great way to give the gift of your time and talent. Patient ambassadors represent the hospital in their communities and at the hospital in many different capacities. This can include participating in photo shoots or videos, speaking to Shrine clubs and attending Shriners events, attending hospital events and fundraisers, participating in media interviews, or simply writing about their experiences.
