Referral process
Referring or transferring patients to Shriners Children’s Texas is a simple process, which only involves a phone call. Any child age 18 or under is eligible for care if the child’s condition is within the scope of services provided. All children are treated regardless of the family's ability to pay.
For parents, legal guardians, etc.
We gladly accept self-referrals. However, in some cases, your insurance may require a referral from your primary care physician. The instructions are the same as mentioned above. You may call us at 888-215-3109 for more information.
Urgent referral
Children with severe burns and other emergent needs are admitted through a physician-to-physician referral. The referring physician should contact the physician-on-call by calling 409-770-6773.
Refer a patient
To refer a patient to Shriners Children’s Texas, please contact our intake coordinator at 888-215-3109 and you will be guided through the admissions process.
Transfer a patient
Shriners Children’s Texas provides 24-hour physician and intensive care coverage. Patients are routinely transferred, transported and admitted to our pediatric intensive care unit directly from hospitals or physicians’ offices. Our charge nurse or physician will coordinate with you to facilitate the urgent transfer of your patient to the Galveston hospital.
