While state mandates for universal masking, capacity, and occupancy have been lifted under Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s order, CDC guidance on masking, social distancing, and infection control precautions are still encouraged within the order.

Shriners Children’s Texas will continue to adhere to the universal masking policy and all other COVID-19 precautions that have been in place to keep our patients, families, and workforce safe.

At Shriners Hospitals for Children, the health and safety of our patients, families, volunteers and staff is our top priority. With the evolving situation regarding COVID-19, we are closely monitoring updates from local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and are actively following their recommendations.

Support services

Support services

At Shriners Children’s Texas, care is delivered in a family-centered model, which means the patient and family are the focus. In addition to high-quality medical care, we have the following support services.

Care management

A care manager is assigned to each family at the time of hospital admission. The care manager will support the family with meeting basic needs, such as housing, transportation and financial assistance. In addition, social workers offer counseling services to train and assist families with coping skills. Social workers also serve as family advocates and coordinate care with community providers. This assistance is given throughout the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care.

School services

Shriners Children’s Texas offers a school program operated in conjunction with Odyssey Academy. The schoolroom is open year round. The teacher sees patients even when they are on bed rest, to make sure they don’t fall behind in their schoolwork.

Psychological therapy

In the case of severe burns and trauma, psychological therapy may be included as part of a child’s care plan to help post-traumatic stress, depression and other conditions. The psychology team has been working with burned children for more than 30 years.

Internet access/computer use

WIFI access is available using our PFA network. Your nurse, or any hospital staff member, can help you if have troubles finding it and logging in.

Interpreter services

Shriners Children’s Texas offers interpretive services for you and your child as it is vital to ensure that you have accurate information about your child’s care. We have Spanish interpreters on site, and other translation services available to assist with a number of languages used across the globe. If you need a translator, please contact the care management department.

Outgoing mail can be sent using the mailbox located at the entrance of the hospital. Arrangements can be made through the Housing and Transportation department for mailing larger packages. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the parent/patient. Mail received after a patient is discharged will be forwarded to the home address of the patient.

Patient rooms do not have individual phone lines. A portable phone is available on the nursing division for patients and families to receive calls from home. Calls to patients may be made by going through our main number, 409-770-6600.

For the comfort of the other patients, we request that all calls are made before 9 p.m. An exception may be made for calls outside the United States due to time zone differences.

We recommend bringing a long distance calling card to make calls home for those families who do not have cell phones.

Cell phone usage is welcome in most areas of the hospital. Restricted cell phone areas are posted for your information.


The security team at Shriners Children’s Texas provides on-site service 24 hours a day. The security staff will escort you to the parking lot. If you have safety concerns or would like a security escort, please call the security guard at the front desk.

Dining services

Our cafeteria serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and is open to our patients and families. Snacks, beverages, sandwiches, salads and desserts are available throughout the day at reasonable prices. See our Food services page for more information.

Family housing

We are pleased to offer families the option of on-site lodging while your child receives care at Shriners Children’s Texas.

Hospital transportation

Shriners often provides transportation to and from the hospital, bus terminals, train stations and the airport. To arrange for a pick-up or drop-off, call the care management department at 713-793-3757. Advance notice is necessary to access this service, therefore please make your transportation arrangements at least two weeks before your need.


Parking is free, secured and available close to the hospital building.

  • We offer one room per family.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older to reserve a room.
  • No pets are allowed except for service animals.
  • No smoking is allowed on hospital premises.
  • The use of alcohol is not allowed on hospital grounds.
  • A visitor badge must be worn at all times.
